Every successful bulk run was decided weeks earlier, at the sample stage. Get sampling right and bulk production is almost boring. Rush it, and the mistakes multiply through every one of your pieces. Here is how sampling works at Kizen Lab and how to get the most out of it.
What Sampling Actually Covers
A sample is not a rough prototype. It is where you verify the five things that define your garment: measurements and fit, how the fabric behaves when cut and sewn, the construction (stitching, seams, finishing), colour accuracy, and the details like labels and trims. The approved sample becomes the exact specification your bulk order must match.
The Pre-Production Sample Is Your Baseline
Across the industry, the pre-production sample is treated as the ultimate reference for the bulk order, once approved, that garment is the standard for your whole run. Bulk cutting only begins after sizing and fit are signed off. We never skip this stage, no matter how tight the timeline, it protects you and us.
How Sampling Works at Kizen Lab
Patterns for every order are made digitally, so measurements are precise and sizes stay consistent. Samples are produced in our Bandung facility, typically one to two weeks depending on materials and workload, by the same production teams who handle your bulk run. You review, we adjust, and the approved sample becomes the sealed standard.
How to Review a Sample Properly
- Measurements first, check against the size chart, not just by eye
- Fit on a body, try it on; a hanger lies
- Fabric hand-feel and weight, confirm it matches what you specified
- Construction details, stitching, seams, buttons, zips, labels
- Colour in daylight, screen colours can drift from the real thing
Document feedback in writing and consolidate it into one round, it keeps your timeline intact.
The Group Standard, at Small Quantities
Sampling is not reserved for big orders. As the subsidiary of World KNK, we run the same sample-then-approve process on woven and non-woven garments from 500 pieces on FOB, with the same digital pattern-making and quality control our parent uses on enterprise-scale programs. Small brands get the same protection as big ones.
Start With a Sample
Send us your design and quantity, even if it is your first ever production run. Contact Kizen Lab and we will confirm your sampling timeline.
